A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death during an argument with his stepfather late Monday night in south Wichita, witnesses told police.
The incident was reported just after 11:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Hydraulic, Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile said. The victim went to the house and got into an argument with his 54-year-old stepfather.
At one point in the dispute, witnesses told police, the stepfather grabbed a knife and stabbed his stepson several times. The victim's mother tried to intervene and was stabbed once.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:02 a.m., according to police records. The stepfather waited for police to arrive and surrendered peacefully, Ojile said.
He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
The victim's mother was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, treated and released.
There were 10 people in the house at the time of the argument and stabbing, Ojile said, and the others witnessed various portions of the incident.
Police are not saying what the argument was about.
This is the 12th homicide of the year in Wichita, Ojile said.
Evidence in the case may be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office today, he said.
