Police chose to use a Taser to subdue a bleeding, naked man who refused to obey their commands and then tried to run from them early Tuesday morning.

A woman called 911 at about 3:15 a.m. to report that a bleeding, naked man banged on her sliding glass door, trying to come inside in the 6800 block of West Shade.

He was then seen going to a nearby apartment. An officer who arrived on the scene saw the man shatter a window and then come down a set of stairs with closed fists.

Officers commanded the 18-year-old man to get on the ground and show his hands. The man refused and attempted to run from the officers, authorities said.

The officers used a Taser on the man and then took him into custody.

During their investigation, police documents show, the officers learned the man had ingested 43 pills of Benadryl and two bottles of Robitussin and had been smoking marijuana.

Police found a pair of gloves, one tennis shoe and a T-shirt near the apartment where the woman first called police.

The man, who lives in another part of the same residential complex, was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for treatment and evaluation.
