One teen shot, another arrested in south Wichita

WICHITA — A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized in serious condition tonight after he was shot in the face in south Wichita.

Police Capt. Troy Livingston said a 17-year-old boy was arrested shortly after the shooting and several witnesses were being questioned by detectives.

Livingston said the 16-year-old was shot in the 1500 block of West Pawnee about 6 p.m. He was driven to the Wal-Mart store at Pawnee and Broadway, where he went inside looking for help.

The boy was then taken by ambulance to Via Christi Medical Center-St. Francis Campus, Livingston said. He said the suspect was arrested near the scene of the shooting.

Livingston said detectives weren't sure what provoked the shooting.

"It's too early to speculate what happened and why it happened," he said.
