Wichita police are investigating a robbery and an attempted robbery at two restaurants in the 1600 block of East Harry, a police official said Wednesday.

Both crimes occurred around 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said.

Police responded to a robbery at Gorditas Express in which a man with a handgun and wearing a ski mask took money from an employee. No one was injured.

While investigating that robbery, police discovered that apparently the same robber had tried to get into another restaurant, La Carreta, around the same time as the robbery of the other restaurant in the same block. But the robber couldn’t get into La Carreta because it had closed for the night, Woodrow said.

The robber was described as a black male, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, wearing all-black clothing, a black ski mask and gloves. The suspect was armed with a handgun.
