Wellington man charged in 2-month-old's injuries

A 20-year-old Wellington man faces two criminal charges related to injuries suffered by his 2-month-old daughter.

Joshua Lee Morton was charged Thursday with one count of child abuse and one count of aggravated child endangerment in Sumner County District Court in Wellington.

The infant was brought to Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus on Saturday for treatment, and Wichita police were alerted.

They in turn notified Wellington police. The child was diagnosed with a skull fracture and other injuries and was placed in protective custody, authorities have said.

Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath said the child's condition has improved to the point that she may be released from the hospital today.

Her 15-month-old brother has been removed from the home and placed in protective custody as well, Heath said.

The case remains under investigation, Heath said, but no further arrests have been made.
