One dead after car strikes tree, catches fire in Brown County

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatality crash in Brown County. One person is dead but his or her identity had not been released as of 10 a.m. Saturday.

The highway patrol said the driver of a vehicle was eastbound on 270th Street, about two miles east of Sabetha, at about 12:25 a.m. Saturday when the vehicle veered off the roadway and into a ditch. The driver overcorrected and struck a tree head on. The vehicle then flipped onto its roof, trapping the driver, and caught fire.

The highway patrol is expected to release more details on its online crash log later. Brown County is in northeastern Kansas, along the Nebraska border.
