Roping and poetry competitions at Prairie Rose this Saturday

Ranch ropers and cowboy poets will be competing Saturday at the Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Supper near Benton.

The roping event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Prairie Rose Wagons Ho RV Park. The contest includes three-person teams competing in horsemanship, stockmanship and teamwork.

At 4 p.m., the Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest will be held in the Prairie Rose Silver Screen Cowboy Museum. Cowboy poets will compete in two categories – serious and humorous. The winners in each category will compete at the state competition June 10 at the Flint Hills Discovery Center in Manhattan.

Both events are free and open to the public.

The Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Supper is at 15231 SW Parallel Road near Benton.
