Man, 21, dies after being found on ice at creek in Pawnee Prairie Park

A 21-year-old man has died after being found on the ice at a creek in Pawnee Prairie Park, and the death remains under investigation, a police official said Saturday night.

The man was pronounced dead after being brought to a Wichita hospital, said Sgt. William Manchester.

Earlier, a 911 dispatch supervisor said that the man was taken to a Wichita hospital Saturday morning. The man was not responsive, the supervisor said.

The supervisor said someone called 911 at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, reporting that a man was in the creek at the park, which is east of Maize Road, off of Pawnee.

Fire and EMS crews got the man out of some ice at 9:43 a.m., the supervisor said.
