A motorcyclist was rushed to a Wichita hospital in critical condition Friday evening after crashing at Washington Avenue and Bayley Street, near Lincoln.
Wichita police Sgt. Ben Jonker said the man, 62, was driving north on Washington when he struck a center median and was ejected shortly before 7 p.m. Jonker said witnesses reported seeing the man and another motorcyclist traveling at “a high rate of speed” when the collision occurred.
The other motorcyclist did not stop, he said.
Emergency crews took the man to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, a Sedgwick County dispatcher said. Among his injuries were potentially life-threatening head wounds, according to emergency scanner traffic.

Jonker said the man remained in “extremely critical condition” at about 8 p.m. Friday. He asked anyone who witnessed the crash or who can help police locate the other motorcyclist to call 911.
The posted speed limit on Washington just south of the crash site is 45 mph, Jonker said. The injured man’s name and where he lived were not released.
