The Wichita Fire Department defeated other city and county agencies in the annual “Battle of the Badges” blood drive competition sponsored by the American Red Cross.
People were encouraged to donate blood and vote for their favorite participating agency from Dec. 11 through Jan. 4. The Wichita Fire Department defeated the Wichita Police Department, EMS and Sedgwick County’s Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office. This was the first year EMS and Sedgwick County participated.
The winner was announced Tuesday and presented with a trophy at a luncheon. Red Cross officials said 1,395 pints of blood and 534 units of platelets were collected.
