Wichita police call off high-speed chase, arrest pair shortly after

Wichita police arrested two people Saturday morning following a car chase that officers called off because of high speeds.

Sgt. John Hoofer said east-side officers started pursuing a 1997 Acura Integra at about 1 a.m. at 800 N. Gatewood, which is near Central and Webb.

A chase ensued, he said, until “speeds got high enough that the officers felt it was unsafe, so they chose to stop at that point.”

“They laid back and just followed the vehicle at slower speeds.”

The pursuit ended at 6000 E. Ironwood, west of 45th North and Webb. Hoofer said he didn’t have information on how long the pursuit lasted, but the distance between the two addresses is about six miles.

He said a man and woman were arrested by officers. He said he did not know their ages.

“A K-9 officer was there to make sure we didn’t have any foot pursuits,” Hoofer said.

“Thankfully nobody got hit — and hurt.”
