Wichita fire units sent to hazmat call at Cessna on East Pawnee

Fire units were dispatched to a hazardous-materials call Saturday morning at a Cessna Aircraft Co. facility in southeast Wichita.

A Sedgwick County dispatcher said several hazmat units from the Wichita Fire Department as well as from McConnell Air Force Base responded to the incident at 5800 E. Pawnee.

She said 911 received a call from Cessna security at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday saying that officers had found a barrel that was smoking and that they thought might contain hazardous materials.

At least 11 employees were evacuated from a building there, according to scanner traffic.

No injuries were reported, and fire units were leaving the scene shortly after 11 a.m., the dispatcher said.
