Major highway closures expected in central Wichita this weekend
A major interchange in the center of Wichita will close this weekend.
The Kansas Department of Transportation is closing Kellogg where it spans I-135, I-135 underneath the Kellogg overpass, and associated ramps, as work continues on the bridge redeck project.
The area is expected to reopen to traffic Monday at 6 a.m.
KDOT said the following ramps would be closed beginning Friday, June 12, at 7 p.m.:
- Northbound I-135 to westbound U.S. 54
- Southbound I-135 to eastbound U.S. 54
- Eastbound U.S. 54 to northbound I-135
- Westbound U.S. 54 to southbound I-135
- Westbound U.S. 54 to Washington Street
- Washington Street to westbound U.S. 54
- Washington Street to eastbound U.S. 54
- Grove Street to eastbound U.S. 54
Ramps that will remain open are:
- Northbound I-135 to eastbound U.S. 54
- Southbound I-135 to westbound U.S. 54
- Eastbound U.S. 54 to southbound I-135
- Westbound U.S. 54 to northbound I-135
KDOT encouraged residents to use K-96 and I-235 and other alternate routes to get across town over the weekend.
“Motorists should plan for extra travel time, follow posted detour signs, and use alternate routes,” the release read. “Please exercise caution while traveling through the area.”
