A Wichita police officer has been reassigned to administrative duties after a video circulating on social media showed the officer engaging in “concerning and inappropriate behavior” while in uniform and on duty, Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan said in a message to the community.

“I know this video has raised, or may raise, concerns and questions for you,” Sullivan wrote in the statement. “I take those concerns seriously.”

Sullivan said he was notified of the video by the department’s professional standards bureau on Dec. 1 and immediately ordered the officer removed from patrol and placed on administrative duty.

Sullivan did not describe what the video depicts, but did confirm the video was of a uniformed officer.

The department’s investigation is ongoing, Sullivan said, adding that the agency is committed to holding its officers accountable “to the standards you expect and deserve.”
