Who will be Wichita’s cutest cat? Vote now to narrow it down to the top 10
After a few weeks’ break for the election, the contest for the Wichita area’s cutest cat is back on.
Readers submitted more than 150 felines for consideration, and now we’re down to 34 of Wichita’s favorites, ranging from 3 months to 17 years. In Round 3 of voting, we’ll cut the pool down to 10 cats for semifinal voting.
Round 3 will be open from Tuesday, Nov. 12, to Sunday, Nov. 17, at 11:59 p.m. Eagle subscribers can vote as many times as they want.
When they submitted their cats, readers shared stories of how local animal shelters and the cat distribution system brought them and their pets together. Among the stories we received from the quarter-finalists:
- Emet found his home during a 2022 heat wave, his owner wrote. “He was malnourished, parched, and dirty from living on the streets and trying to endure the heat. After weeks of gaining his trust we brought him into our home where he is living his best life as indoor cat.”
- An eye doctor brought Tilly and her human together after the doctor’s cat had a litter of kittens. “Tilly is my adventurous cat. She’s always on alert and is our mother hunter in the house. She’s the most curious about outside (all my cats are indoor cats), and is the zoomiest kitty.”
- Piper’s humans never thought they’d be pet people, until they found the little kitten in a culvert on the side of the road where they’d stopped to remove some roadway debris. “I’ve learned that owners often don’t choose their pets — the animals pick their owners — and we’re blessed that Piper meowed at me from that culvert nearly one year ago!”
“Our precious Marco was a rescue fur baby who found his forever home. It was love at first sight!”
In the poll below, look through the two pages of cats and pick your favorites. Don’t forget to hit submit to make sure your vote counts!
Also, for you dog lovers out there, The Eagle is accepting submissions for the best hunting dog in the area through Thursday, Nov. 14.
