Life jackets for ducklings? Wichita firefighters joke after storm drain rescue

Wichita firefighters already have specialized oxygen masks for pets, and now they may want life jackets for ducklings.

That was what firefighters joked in a Facebook post after rescuing eight ducks from a downtown storm drain Thursday morning.

The crew from Fire Station No. 2 responded to a report of several ducklings trapped in a storm drain at Market and William, near Douglas and Broadway, the post said.

All eight ducks were rescued and uninjured, the post said.

The Wichita Fire Department has specialized oxygen masks on hand for pets rescued from house fires, the post said, and "perhaps we need to look into life jackets for ducklings. #KiddingKindOf #OneSizeWouldntFitAll #QuackJackets?"

Last week, firefighters used duct tape, trash hooks and an empty coffee can to rescue ducks from a storm drain.
