Low and middle income homeowners can get free exterior paint from the city this summer.
Thanks to a yearly federal grant, Wichita will pay up to $250 per house for paint. The income limit is $35,150 for a single-person household and $50,150 for a four-person household.
Income-eligible residents, age 62 and older, may also submit labor costs up to $5,000, including paint.
“This program makes such a big difference in the appearance of the home as well as the entire block,” said Mary K. Vaughn, director of Housing and Community Services.
The program runs on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are spent, or until September 18. The city has roughly $20,000 for the program, and has staff who assess and verify the work before, during and after each project.
