Blame a squirrel for west Wichita power outages

A squirrel is being blamed for a power outage that has affected more than 2,000 Westar customers in west Wichita.

The squirrel triggered the outage at a substation, according to Westar spokeswoman Jaycee Breese. Crews are working to restore power.

Three separate outage zones west of West Street are involved, according to a Westar outage map. Power is expected to be restored by 7 p.m.

More than 2,200 customers are affected by the outages.
