A ransomware attack on Butler County’s computer network over the weekend has limited communications in the county, according to a news release.
All offices are open but services requiring the use of a computer such as motor vehicle renewals and driver license renewal are not available at this time.
The county is working with third-party vendors and law enforcement to restore the system.
Officials do not think any public or private information was stolen from the county, but essential software and data is essentially being held hostage/encrypted until monies are paid or the county restores access with the help of third-party vendors, said Will Johnson, county administrator.
