The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said 54-year-old Patrick “P.T.” Shirley, of Norcatur, is the man who was shot by a Decatur County Sheriff’s deputy Thursday night.
Two deputies were sent to 2344 Hwy. 36 in Norcatur just before 9 p.m. on the report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, Shirley was found in a large outbuilding northwest of the home, armed with a firearm, the KBI said.
Police tried to talk to Shirley, but at one point, the KBI said Shirley pointed his firearm at one of the deputies. The other deputy shot Shirley.
Shirley was treated at the scene then flown to the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Nebraska, where he underwent surgery.
The KBI will complete an independent investigation and it will be presented to the Decatur County Attorney.
