An East High School student was arrested and suspended after bringing a gun to school on Tuesday, authorities said Wednesday.
Another student noticed the gun and notified a school staff member, Principal Ken Thiessen said in a voice mail sent to parents of East High students Tuesday night.
The gun was not loaded, Thiessen said, and no one was threatened with it.
The student, who has a criminal history, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
He has also been suspended from school pending a disciplinary hearing in accordance with district policy, USD 259 spokeswoman Susan Arensman said.
Tuesday's incident was the second time this school year a district student was found to have brought a gun to school, Arensman said.
On Oct. 28, a gun was found in a student's car at South, she said. It was never in the building.
There were two incidents in each of the previous three years and four during the 2006-07 school year, district records show.
