Husband's cancer, kidney failure derail family finances

Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

Her husband was diagnosed with cancer and kidney failure in 2008.

They have applied for Social Security but have not been accepted yet.

They have fallen behind $181 on the electric bill and $400 on car payments.

"It has been a hard journey, because now I have to try and pay all the bills, buy his medication and pay for his hospital visit," she said.

He is 41. She is 39. They have a 19-year-old daughter who lives with them.

"My checks that I get from my job are already spent on either his medicine, or co-pays, so we have done the best that we can," she said. "The medicine alone, and all the little things, add up."
