A benefit auction will be held for the family of injured Marine Sgt. Jonathon Blank at noon Jan. 16 at the Augusta High School commons area.
The auction is being sponsored by Augusta and area businesses. Area law enforcement agencies, the Kansas Auctioneers Association and American Legion Post 406 are among groups helping with the event.
All proceeds go to Blank's family to help make up for lost wages and travel expenses as they spend time with him at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
Blank, 23, who is from rural Augusta, was injured Oct. 26 in Afghanistan. He lost both legs and sustained internal injuries when an improvised explosive device exploded.
The auction event will also include a parade, lunch and bake sale. Vegetable soup and chili will be available for purchase. The Diamond W Wranglers will provide music.
