Riverfest searches for Michaels replacement

Wichita River Festival organizers are still waiting for official word from singer Bret Michaels' staff about his ability to perform on the festival's opening night.

But because the singer was still hospitalized in critical condition Monday, they're assuming that he won't be able to perform at the West Bank Stage on May 7, which is less than two weeks away.

Michaels was hospitalized Thursday night after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

The staff is working to find a replacement act, said Janet Wright, the festival's president and CEO.

"We've got feelers out in a lot of different places," she said.

Wright said she expects official word from Michaels' staff this morning. Michaels is the lead singer of the rock band Poison and is also a contestant on the reality TV show "Celebrity Apprentice."
