Butler County sheriff identifies woman killed in house fire

Butler County authorities have identified the woman killed in a house fire earlier this week.

Toni Deason, 61, died in the fire that also killed her two dogs, Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy said Wednesday. Authorities were alerted shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday about a fire that had damaged the house southwest of Augusta near the Augusta airport, he said.

Deason's son told investigators he went to her house at 12298 SW 110th St. when she would not answer her phone.

He noticed the windows were black, and he found his mother when he went inside.

Investigators said they suspect the fire occurred late Monday or early Tuesday and burned itself out.

No one probably noticed flames, Murphy said, because of the house's rural location and the fact that the fire did not burn beyond the interior.

Investigators are still not sure what caused the fire, Murphy said.

Foul play is not suspected, he said.
