Wichita-area Girl Scouts are inviting girls from across Kansas to help break the record for the world’s largest sleepover.

Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland’s Outside In Campout will be from 9:30 p.m. Sept. 24 to 6 a.m. Sept. 25 at Towne West Square in Wichita. The group submitted an application with Guinness World Records and will get an official shot at breaking the world record for largest sleepover.

At least 2,005 participants are needed to break the current world record, set by Girlguiding Northwest England.

To participate, girls must be registered Girl Scouts and must be accompanied by a guardian or troop volunteer. The cost of a yearlong membership is $15, and financial aid is available.

The cost to attend the Outside In Campout is $25 if registered by Sept. 19 or $35 at the door, and it’s $15 for adults accompanying girls.

To join Girl Scouts, register for the event or learn more, go to kansasgirlscouts.org, e-mail info@gskh.org or call 888-686-6468.

Girls can bring tents and sleeping bags to the mall for the slumber party, but sleeping is not required. Select stores will open after 9:30 p.m. for late-night shopping. Other activities include dancing, karaoke, face-painting, a movie, a fashion runway show and opportunities to work on earning Girl Scout badges in each grade level.
