An 11-year-old boy was arrested Saturday when police said he and two other children tried to set a vacant apartment unit on fire.
According to police, the boy and two other children, ages 8 and 9, broke into a unit at Remington Park Apartments, near Central and Ridge Road, at about 1:45 p.m.
The children poured lighter fluid on walls and the carpet in an attempt to set the unit on fire, police said.
A neighbor smelled chemicals and discovered what the children were doing, police said. The children fled, and the neighbor contacted the manager, who called 911.
