The average retail gasoline prices in the Wichita area was $1.64 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com, up about 4 cents from Sunday, but down about 5 cents from a week ago.
The price is close to the seven-year low set two weeks ago.
The national average was $1.96, with 38 of the 50 states seeing a weekly decline in gas prices.
"However, this majority of states lowering gas prices wasn’t enough to move the national average significantly, a testament to the severity of California’s gas price hike," said Will Speer, a Houston-based senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy. "As the refining issues impacting California aren’t expected to be resolved this week, California will continue to inflate the national gas price average into the new year.”
