Home health care product and service provider Apria Healthcare Group will open its first infusion and injectable specialty pharmacy in Wichita on Monday.
The pharmacy, at 8201 E. 34th Circle North, Suite 905, will employ seven, including a pharmacist, pharmacy technicians and registered nurses.
The specialty pharmacy is one of three that Lake Forest, Calif.-based Apria is opening across the country this year. The others are in Pensacola, Fla., and Charleston, S.C.
Ronda Bowles, one of the two RNs staffing the new pharmacy, said it will specialize in preparing intravenous solutions and injectables for patients, including for chemotherapy and intravenous nutrition.
The pharmacy also will have a suite designed to administer IVs and injections to people on an outpatient basis.
"Some of the drugs require that they be given in a controlled environment," Bowles said.
Bowles said the pharmacy's primary customers are hospital discharge planners and physicians.
The pharmacy's territory includes two-thirds of the state, essentially from Wichita to the Colorado state line.
Apria also operates a specialty pharmacy in Lenexa.
The company has already had a presence in Wichita through its durable medical equipment business, such as patient beds and home oxygen equipment.
A public open house for the new pharmacy will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 14.
