What are the walls going up at 29th and Maize Road?

Slawson Cos. has three strip centers planned within NewMarket North. The first is in the center of the development. It will have Orangetheory Fitness on its south end and a breakfast restaurant on the north end. There also will be room for a couple of restaurants in an area called the Terrace, which will overlook a water feature, on the south end of the development. Courtesy illustration

As of Monday, walls will begin to go up on the new 21,000-square-foot building at Slawson Cos. NewMarket North at the northwest corner of 29th and Maize Road.

Orangetheory Fitness will open at the building in December, and Slawson is close to announcing a breakfast restaurant for the building, too.

Construction on the mixed-use project, which will span a quarter mile, began in June.

It’s adjacent to Slawson’s NewMarket Square, which is more of a conventional shopping center than NewMarket North will be.

NewMarket North will have offices and possibly even apartments above its retail and restaurant spaces.

Slawson expects the first NewMarket North building to be fully occupied by spring.

Two other buildings will follow. One on the south end of the development will be 66,000 square feet. One on the north end will be about 26,000 square feet.

There also will be an area called the Terrace, which will be close to the street on the south end. There will be a water feature with terraces above it and, likely, two 6,000-square-foot restaurants overlooking it.

Key Construction is the general contractor for NewMarket North. LK Architecture is the architect, PEC is the engineer, Legacy Bank is providing financing and Greteman Group is handling branding.
