The former Lucky Devil Tattoos and Delano Dermagraphics space at 551 W. Douglas in Delano is going to once again be home to a tattoo parlor.
Kim Ho and her husband, Kham Smith, are opening Symbolic Tattoo in the space.
“Our logo is going to be … the Chinese symbol for longevity,” Ho says.
She has owned the Lux Nail Studio at the Village at Greenwich for eight years. Ho says her husband and Chris Ware will be Symbolic Tattoo’s artists.
While a lot of tattoo parlors have more of what Ho calls a skater vibe, she says hers will have “kind of a more Asian feel to it.”
“We’re going for the Chinese theme, of course.”
Ho says she’ll have a Thai Naga dragon painted on the wall to greet customers as they come in.
“It’s a prominent Asisan symbol.”
She says it’s also something that a lot of people get tattooed.
The shop also will have a koi pond for luck, Ho says.
She plans a March grand opening.
Moeder & Associates, which manages the property, helped with the lease as well.
“I am very impressed with the thoroughness and detail with which they have approached this,” Leon Moeder says.
“They’ve been a joy to work with. I turned my back, and they’ve got 12 things finished that I thought would … take a while.”
Even though Delano is a long way from the Village at Greenwich, Ho says it makes sense for a tattoo shop.
“That’s kind of where people go for the tattoos,” she says. “Delano’s just real historic.”
Ho says she likes that there are events such as rallies and Final Friday parties in Delano.
“It’s just an area for … eclectic people.”
