Genesis Health Clubs owner Rodney Steven II has started opening supplement shops within each of his 41 clubs.
He says he first started testing the stores last year.
“We had such success with it.”
The clubs used to sell one line of supplements. Now, they’ll each be selling about 30 lines and have stores of 200 to 500 feet.
Steven says he’s borrowing space from some of the bigger lobbies at his clubs. In other cases, he’s taking part of pro shops for the supplements.
“Retail’s changed a lot,” he says.
His first store is complete at his West Central Genesis.
“The rest of them are all going through it right now,” Steven says. “They’ll all be done in the next 30 days.”
The stores will have vitamins, fish oil, proteins, bars, drinks and powders among other things.
When Steven first started selling the products, they were in display cases. He says it makes sense to have more products and have dedicated selling areas for them.
“Diet is so important,” Steven says. “It’s convenient for us to prescribe exactly what we’re preaching.”
