UPDATED – Wichita is back to having only one Cowtown, as in the museum on the river, not the restaurant.

When Anthony Powell left his short-lived Cowtown Burger & Brew, which previously was a Mooyah franchise, Fugate Enterprises decided to keep the restaurant open.

Fugate, which provides management services to Pizza Huts and Taco Bells that Larry Fugate owns, owns the Cowtown building at 352 S. West St.

“It just was one of those things where we thought, well, let’s give it a whirl,” Fugate spokeswoman Kym Money said at the time.

The whirl also was short-lived.

The restaurant has closed due to construction in the area, Money says.

“That’s why Cowtown was struggling when we got it,” she says. “The sales have just continued to erode.”

Fugate doesn’t have other plans for the building yet, but Money says she’ll let us know when that changes.
