Almost five years after opening his first Music Scene music store in Andover, Steve Shook is expanding to Wichita with a second store at Wichita’s Art Park.
“The new location will focus on just lessons to begin with,” Shook says of the Art Park, which is on 29th Street just west of Rock Road.
That’s how he started his store at 546 N. Andover Road in 2011. It’s now a full-service music store will instrument sales and repairs.
Shook kept adding on to the store, which is now 4,500 square feet.

“It’s been growing nicely, especially our private lessons there.”
Shook says it makes sense to have music lessons at the Art Park, where there are art and dance classes, too.
“It’s really geared for students.”
That can be especially handy for parents, he says.
“They could drop off one kid at art class and the other child at music class,” Shook says. “It’s kind of a one-stop shop for your kids and their arts.”
The second Music Scene will open on June 1.
As he did with the Andover store, Shook says he expects to grow into a full-service music store at the Art Park, too.
“Over time we will start expanding the services there,” he says. “They have plenty of space there.”
Initially, the second Music Scene will be in 1,500 square feet.
Shook says additional stores are possible as well.
“We’ll just take it one by one,” he says. “We’re just going to expand as we see business opportunities.”
