Tom Yun is 73 and looking to retire, but he’s had no luck selling Marcie’s Cafe at 20201 W. Kellogg in Goddard.
He says he knew the state would eventually want his property for the expansion of Kellogg, so he’s sold it to the Kansas Department of Transportation and is closing his restaurant after business on Sunday.
“It’s a sad story,” Yun says.
It’s one that started in 1960. The business began under another name as a hamburger stand and grew through the years. It was best known as Gerrard’s before changing to Marcie’s in 2012.
