The Emerson Biggin’s near 21st and Maize Road has a couple of rooms for private parties that general manager Buddy Colson says he realized were underused.
“We usually only use these on Fridays and Saturdays,” he says.
So he and owner Larry Dobbs talked and decided to go with what they call kind of a Dave & Buster’s theme for those areas.
“Dave & Buster’s is like a grown-up Chuck E. Cheese’s,” Dobbs says.
Emerson Biggin’s now has a new kind of game focus. There are arcade-style games for kids and adults. About 90 percent of the machines have been installed.
The bar and grill already had pool tables and now has foosball as well as the other games.
“We’re going to that … to broaden our market base,” says Dobbs, who has owned the business for 14 months. “It’s not just something that we threw together.”
He’s going to call the game area Dave & Larry’s, which is named for Dobbs and a business partner whose first name is Dave.
Colson says he’s still setting up the prize area where customers can exchange tickets that they win from the games.
He says diners can still rent private rooms but that it makes sense to have the games available the rest of the time.
“I think this is just a better way to go.”
