Jamil Toubassi is preparing to move his Flint Hills Spas just down from its current space near Central and Edgemoor to expanded space near Central and Woodlawn.
“We want to be somewhere maybe with higher traffic count (and) more visibility,” he says.
Toubassi had been in the fertilizer division of Koch Industries until a couple of years ago when he took some time off and looked for a business to buy.
He’d purchased a hot tub a few years ago from Flint Hills Spas owner Dave Garretson.

“He kind of made a joke,” Toubassi says.
He says Garretson said, “Well, I know a business you could buy. Ha, ha.”
That’s just what Toubassi did, though, and he hired Garretson to continue running the business.
“He’s kind of a key component of this,” Toubassi says. “His name and the business are synonymous.”
Toubassi purchased the business in late January and plans to move it in August from 1,500 square feet at 5630 E. Central to almost 2,500 square feet 6350 E. Central. That’s the center immediately east of Williams Ace Hardware where Stems and Wichita Pilates Group are.
Krista Lowry of J.P. Weigand & Sons handled the deal.
Currently, Flint Hills Spas primarily sells hot tubs and related products.
“We’re in the process of trying to expand the product lines,” Toubassi says.
With the additional space at the new location, he says he plans to add grills, saunas, outdoor heaters, umbrellas, indoor-outdoor fireplaces and other patio-related items.
The name of the business won’t change, but Toubassi says some of the wording he uses around it will.
“Sometimes the name is a bit confusing,” he says. “It’s not like a day spa or something like that.”
Toubassi says some of the new wording will “define the business a little bit better.”
