A new gas station and convenience store are opening where Miriam’s Quick Mart used to be at 550 N. Webb Road, which is at the northeast corner of Central and Webb.
AJ Aluthwala and his Bredix Inc. are opening Shop550 later this month.
Aluthwala says his landlord divided the space from when it was Miriam’s.
“Still, it’s a big space for a convenience store.”

He says his portion will be 2,500 square feet, some of which he’ll use for his wholesale knickknack business.
Bredix supplies about 80 mom-and-pop convenience stores around Wichita with items such as lighters, ashtrays, animal figures, bracelets and anklets.
Shop550 will carry Hunt Brothers Pizza, Pepsi and Coke products and Hiland Dairy novelty ice cream items, among other things.
This is the company’s first foray into owning a convenience store.
“We have plans to open up two more convenience stores within the next couple of years,” Aluthwala says.
He says it looks to him like there could be more positive news coming out of nearby Beechcraft, and that’s part of what is encouraging him to open at Central and Webb.
“We are very excited about that.”
