Two years after entering the Wichita market, Versona is opening a second store here at NewMarket Square.

The chain, which is owned by North Carolina-based Cato Corp., sells jewelry, sunglasses, handbags, scarves, belts, footwear and hair accessories.

The company opened its first Wichita store in spring 2013 at Bradley Fair on the east side.

The new store will go in the 6,500-square-foot space that Dustee’s Fashion Accessories left in April.

Jerry Jones of Slawson Cos., the NewMarket Square developer, says he’s been working on the Versona deal for a while.

“They’ve wanted to be at NewMarket for quite a while.”

Versona is scheduled to open Sept. 24 at the development at 21st and Maize Road. Remodeling work has begun.

Jones says the Oklahoma-based Dustee’s was an early, valued tenant of the NewMarket Square phase that also saw Best Buy and Michael’s open.

However, he says Versona is a national brand.

“It brings … another national brand name,” he says. Jones says it “will draw a broader customer base … to that space.”

A Versona spokeswoman says to look for more information about the store opening in early September.
