Genesis Health Clubs owner Rodney Steven II has remedied the one issue he had when buying a chain of four health clubs in Fort Collins, Colo., last fall.

"They're the best brand already . . . for sure in the Fort Collins area," Steven says of Miramont Lifestyle Fitness.

However, one of the clubs in Fort Collins is a leased property.

"It's not my brand to lease," Steven says.

Thursday, he purchased the Fort Collins Club in Fort Collins and is moving one of his Genesis clubs to that property.

"It's a big property," Steven says.

There are indoor and outdoor pools, pickleball courts, volleyball, barre fitness and a cafe among other things.

Steven says there are "tons of group fitness rooms and studios."

"It's kind of the craze of the early '90s coming back right now," he says.

Steven plans immediate upgrades at the new club as well.

Genesis has 46 clubs in Kansas, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska, most of which are free to Genesis members who travel to other states.

"It's amazing to see how many of your members do travel," Steven says. "It helps everyone stay active."

He plans to expand further in Colorado.

"Everybody exercises here. They're all fitness fanatics," Steven says. "It's refreshing to see and probably drives me even more to push my community to exercise more and more."

Steven says he hates to admit that there may not be quite as many exercise enthusiasts in his own backyard. He says he'd like to change that.

"It's what drives me every day."
