Does Cracker Barrel have a west-side deal or not?

Despite some signs that some people are taking as fact, there is no confirmed deal for a west-side Cracker Barrel.

That doesn’t mean one won’t happen, but there’s nothing concrete yet to say it will.

First, this summer Have You Heard? reported that there’s an application with the city to make some changes to the property where the Palace West theater sits near Taft and Ridge Road.

The application sought to change the configuration of the three parcels on which the theater sits in order to better suit them for possible future redevelopment.

There are at least a couple of developers who have eyed the property for other uses.

The property is in the middle of a popular area for restaurants in particular and hotels as well.

No one with Regal Entertainment Group commented about the possible change at the time. The Wichita City Council has since approved the application, though that doesn’t mean anything will change there.

Also since then, Tennessee-based Cracker Barrel has put out bids to build a possible restaurant in the Kellogg and Ridge Road area.

A spokeswoman for the company e-mailed to say that it’s corporate policy not to “confirm development in new locations until the permitting process is complete and we have all necessary approvals, as these things can change very quickly, and we would hate to be premature in confirming anything without the necessary legal approvals.”

There are 648 Cracker Barrel restaurants nationally in 44 states.

Next month, the chain will open its first restaurant in California.

It’s been almost two decades since a Cracker Barrel opened in Kansas. There are ones in Park City, Topeka, Olathe and Junction City.

Look for more information as soon as it’s available.
