The third new Hardee’s for Wichita and the fourth one in greater Wichita in recent years is going to open next year at Occidental Management’s Tyler Pointe development at 13th and Tyler.
“Pretty much all our competitors are at Central and Tyler,” says Tony Parrish, vice president of Boulder-based Capstone Restaurant Group.
He says sometimes it makes sense to go down the street away from competition, and this was such a time.
For the same reason, Parrish says the company was not as interested in the busy 21st and Maize Road area.
“We just felt like we’d be slicing the pie one slice thinner.”
Capstone has about 300 Hardee’s restaurants.
“We’re a large Hardee’s franchisee,” Parrish says. “We are … definitely growing.”
When looking at Kansas, he says, “The glaring, obvious place for us to come first is Wichita.”
He says the company wants to be in four quadrants of the city.
“We were going to go from there basically,” he says.
While looking at a trade area, he says, “We also look for what kind of anchors are on the corners.”
Parrish says there’s a lot in the 13th and Tyler area, including QuikTrip, which Hardee’s will be one parcel south of.
In early 2016, Capstone opened a Hardee’s at New Leaf Plaza at the southwest corner of 21st and Amidon.
In January, the company opened another Hardee’s at Harry and Hillside and then another one in Derby in July.
The Tyler Pointe Hardee’s, which will have a similar footprint to the other Hardee’s restaurants, will open in March or April.
Occidental president Chad Stafford and broker Adam Mauck handled the deal.
Capstone next is turning its attention to the northeast quadrant of the city, Parrish says.
“We are still looking to put another site in Wichita.”
