Turnout for inaugural taco event is overwhelming
Almost 15 years after opening her first Tacos Lopez, Maria Pinales is preparing to open her second.
“Customers … asked for it,” she says.
The first Tacos Lopez, which serves what Pinales calls traditional Mexican fast food, is at 795 N. West St. It’s known for 24-hour service on the weekends and late-night hours until 2 or 3 a.m. on weekdays.
The new restaurant will be at 2110 N. Maize Road in the same center just south of 21st and Maize Road where AAA is.
“This one will have different hours,” Pinales says.
She says she thinks there’s not as much of a late-night crowd in that area, so the restaurant probably will close by midnight at the latest.
There will be a drive-through and seating for at least 40.
Pinales says she’d like to open more restaurants, though probably not in Wichita.
“We’re shooting to see if we can get one in Goddard or Park City,” Pinales says. “I think we’re just too crowded already in Wichita.”
Look for the new west Wichita Tacos Lopez to open in early November.
