Superior Tool Service is expanding with a new building that will allow the company to grow even more.
“If we were going to build a building, it would have been almost exactly like this,” president Clint Whitney says of the 33,000-square-foot space where the company is locating at 722 E. Zimmerly.
Superior specializes in industrial cutting tools for a variety of industries.
“We either sharpen them, manufacture them or sell them,” Whitney says.

The company started in 1987, and Whitney, his wife, Christie, and Buddy Harrison purchased it in 2014.
“We’re all longtime employees,” Clint Whitney says. “We’ve just been expanding ever since we took over.”
The company has been in two buildings near Harry and West streets that total 15,000 square feet, but Whitney says Superior ran out of room to keep expanding there.
The partners branched into manufacturing in 2014 and added distribution in 2016.
Whitney says part of the idea behind the move is “so we can get all of our services under one roof.”
Also, he says the new site will make it easier on customers on the east and south sides in addition to aiding the company’s own delivery services.
“It’s a little more centrally located in the city.”
Along with local customers, Superior has a total of more than 400 machine shops globally.
Whitney says the company will have some more news about its growth late this year or in early 2018.
“We have a couple of things we’re working on.”
