It may not seem like the smartest strategy for a business to regularly give away its product, but that’s what Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza is doing – again.

When the new restaurant in Greenwich Place opened in September, it gave away 1,000 pizzas on its first day to everyone who liked the restaurant on social media or downloaded its app.

Now, Blaze has invented Nonconformist Day to offer $4 pizzas after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

“We’re calling it a pop-up pizza party for all who blaze new trails,” says Kansas City-based Chris McDonald of BZKC LLC.

He says it has nothing to do with needing more business at the new restaurant.

“This is across the country,” McDonald says of other Blaze restaurants. “It just happens to be a few weeks after we open.”

He says the new Blaze is doing well.

“We’re really happy.”

McDonald already is working on Wichita’s second Blaze.

“I actually have my broker standing right here in front of me,” he says.

There’s nothing imminent, McDonald says, but he says he’s “working at finding a spot on the west side as fast as possible.”
