It’s hard to believe they didn’t coordinate schedules, but Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza is coincidentally going to open the same day as the new Stein Mart at Greenwich Place.

As Have You Heard? reported last week, Stein Mart is opening Sept. 14.

So will Blaze, which is going in a two-tenant building in front of Stein Mart and Buy Buy Baby in the center at K-96 and Greenwich.

“It’s coming along really good,” says Chris McDonald of BZKC LLC, a franchise group that has the rights to Blaze in Kansas and Missouri.

Blaze is a fast-casual pizza concept that McDonald says features fast and affordable artisanal pizzas.

Customers go through a line to build their own pizzas, which are then fired for three minutes in an 800-degree oven. Pizza dough is made fresh on site daily.

The 11-inch pizzas are $8.

There are also salads, desserts and fountain drinks, including a signature blood orange lemonade that McDonald calls “a huge hit.” There’s also beer and wine.

The chain started in 2012 in Pasadena, Calif., and McDonald says it’s a hot concept that has investors such as LeBron James and other NBA stars. There are about 200 Blaze restaurants nationally.

There’s a hiring trailer in front of the Wichita Blaze, and it’s open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. McDonald says the easiest way to apply is at www.bfcareers.com.

Although Sept. 14 is the opening, you may want to mark your calendar for Sept. 15.

Anyone who goes to Blaze and shows he’s following the restaurant on social media will get a free pizza.

“It definitely causes a scene,” McDonald says. “It’s crazy.”

He says the group is looking at west-side sites, too. McDonald says the pizza giveaway happens at each new Blaze restaurant.

“It’s kind of our, ‘Hello,’ to the market.”
