Nebraska-based Lou’s Sporting Goods has been named the best sports store in Kansas. So says AmericanTowns Media.
“You know, I was surprised,” says president Roger Brackhan. “Typically those types of awards tend to go to retailers with high profiles.”
The 50-year-old company, which sells high school and college custom uniforms and athletic equipment, has been in Wichita for a decade.
“Retail is really not our strength,” Brackhan says.
He says the company specializes in servicing school accounts.
The company’s 3,000-square-foot store at 934 S. Oliver is more of a customer team service center than a strictly retail outlet, Brackhan says.
Lou’s expanded to Garden City in May by merging with RT Sporting Goods, which was No. 4 on the AmericanTowns list.
“So we’re happy to have them join us,” Brackhan says.
Since 2015, the company also has added two sales positions in Lawrence and Norton. Brackhan says the additions helped broaden the company’s reach across the state.
Brackhan says Lou’s will continue to expand.
“We’ll probably be adding a couple more sales people.”
