Vanderbilt's opens in new west-side space
You wouldn’t know it to pass it, but Vanderbilt’s has a new west-side store.
The store, which is part of a 45-year-old Wamego-based chain, had been at Kellogg and Tyler for three decades.
It’s now moved just down from its previous 5,000 square feet at 8909 W. Kellogg to 7,000 square feet at 8080 W. Kellogg. That’s a couple of doors east of Ultra Modern Pool & Patio.
However, there are no signs for the new Vanderbilt’s yet.
“They’re promising me that signs are coming soon,” says Debi Adelhardt, who manages that store and the east-side Vanderbilt’s.
Adelhardt says the new west-side space is larger and gave the company a good chance to update and upgrade the store.
“The open ceiling is a lot better lighting in here,” she says.
Also, the new store is more visible from Kellogg.
“We were on the low part, and Kellogg went high, so you just barely saw our … pole sign,” Adelhardt says.
“You never saw the building. And this you see building east and west,” she says. “We saw all that as pluses.”
The store sells western wear, jeans, outerwear and work boots.
“We want to be the men’s work boot headquarters,” Adelhardt says.
Vanderbilt’s is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Adelhardt is hoping shoppers visit the new store even though there aren’t signs to guide them to the spot just yet.
“We would love them to come in and find us.”
