It looks like QuikTrip may have some expansion plans for its store at Douglas and Rock Road.

The Tulsa chain has been buying property around the store on the southeast corner of the intersection for what looks like will be one of its scrape-and-build projects.

QuikTrip has replaced a lot of its stores throughout Wichita over the last few years with its Generation 3 stores. Often times, it tears down an existing building and rebuilds near the same spot but on expanded property.

Earlier this year, the company purchased the former 360Wichita building at 8017 E. Douglas.

Now, it looks like QuikTrip is buying part of the Colony East Apartments at 8045 E. Douglas.

“I am unable to comment,” says QuikTrip spokesman Mike Thornbrugh.

There are three apartment buildings behind the QuikTrip and former 360Wichita buildings.

There’s an eight-unit building on the far west side of the apartment development that QuikTrip may be buying with plans to raze it. The building has been mostly vacant recently. There’s one tenant left who has made arrangements to move.

The other two apartment buildings will remain. That includes a 20-unit complex next to the one that will be demolished and a second eight-unit complex to the east of that.

Look for more information and confirmation from QuikTrip as work progresses.
