Sheryl Haynes has come a long way since she first started offering yoga for babies and toddlers a decade ago.
“At first I had to offer it for free because nobody knew what it was,” she says.
Now, her Sunshine Family Yoga is having an open house on Saturday to celebrate its new, larger space at 303 N. West St., Suite 210.
Haynes says there’s better signage and street visibility than her previous Waterman space, too.
“It’s all family oriented,” Haynes says of what she offers.
Parents and young ones do yoga together.
“They don’t bring their love and drop them off,” Haynes says of parents.
But why do babies and children need yoga?
“Movement helps with development, and development helps with movement,” Haynes says. “It has all the benefits that yoga does with adults.”
She says that includes help with sleeping and digestion.
“Everything you do is developmentally delicious for them.”
The open house is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and will feature prizes, a silent auction and face painting among other things.
